Double Award Delight for Morpeth Care Home Activities Coordinator

The atmosphere at Riverside House Care Home in Morpeth is even more uplifting than usual following two industry award nominations for the home’s activity offering.

Richard Dobinson, activity co-ordinator at Riverside House is a finalist for the activity coordinator categories at the national Caring UK Awards and the Great British Care Awards North East.

Both awards acknowledge individuals for their work on delivering needs-led, meaningful and varied activity and entertainment programmes for care home residents.

First, Richard will compete among the best in care in the North East for the activity coordinator award at the regional Great British Care Awards evening in Newcastle on 10th November. The Great British Care Awards North East, celebrate the best in social care in the region, with regional finalists going on to compete in a national final early in 2023.

Then on 1st December, Richard will join finalists from around the United Kingdom for the national Caring UK Awards gala in Leicester.

Julie Roper, home manager of Riverside House, said: “I am ecstatic that Richard has been nominated for two awards this year. It’s wonderful to see his hard work and devotion to our home and residents recognised in this way. Richard truly is one in a million!”

Vibrant Activities

In recent years, Riverside House has become known locally for its vibrant activities programme tailored to the needs and interests of the people it supports. The home has always had strong links to the local community, but thanks to Richard, community engagement surpassed pre-pandemic levels this year.

Earlier this year, Richard worked with residents to gather items for a time capsule that may be of interest to future generations. The time capsule was buried in the home’s grounds during an official ceremony with the Mayor of Morpeth as the guest of honour.

2022 also saw the establishment of a men’s group in association with the local football team Morpeth AFC. Richard’s work with the club has brought current players into the home to discuss football and also led to VIP match day experiences for some of the home’s residents at the Morpeth AFC’s home ground.

Sam Armstrong, regional manager for Riverside House, said: “Richard puts so much thought into improving the lives of his residents. Everything is perfectly tailored to their needs and interests with a distinct link to the local area. Richard has even found a wonderful entertainer who has conversations with residents in the Geordie dialect and performs traditional local songs our residents love.

“Richard’s recent project of the Riverside House summer fair demonstrates his commitment to building and maintaining relationships between residents and their local community. I wish Richard the very best of luck for these awards!”
